So Much to Do in Room 102!

Dear Parents,
I apologize for the delay in getting this classroom website up and running.  There is so much I want to do, but I also have less time at nights because of the birth of my third son in June!  As he begins sleeping through the night, every so often, I find my energy returning to me.  Please stay tuned for important links and resources as well as new announcements of what is going on in the classroom and photos of past work.  Here is a listing of some of the activities we have planned within the classroom:

October:
Mercado will take place on the 25th of October.

Students will research a person from history and write and present a biography report, dressed in character, on October 31st from 10:00-11:00.  Children from other classrooms as well as parents are invited to attend.

November:

Students will study the history of the colonization of New England as well as the myths and facts about the first Thanksgiving. Students will work in teams, in conjunction with room 101 to create a Thanksgiving menu that is prepared by the children.  6th graders will be in charge of budgeting and calculating the unit cost of each ingredient used for our feast.

December:
Students will learn to use the sewing machine for a special holiday project!  We will also look at holiday traditions around the world and write about our own family traditions.

January:
We will be focusing on botany studies and will do some goings out in that area.

February:
We will be creating extended stories that we will bind into books and share with our friends.  We will also celebrate our friendships in a special way on Valentines Day/Statehood Day.

March:
Pi Day! (3/14) This is my favorite day to celebrate by bringing all things circular to calculate the circumference, area, and volume of our favorite round things before we eat them.  We will also learn more about the history of the number Pi.

April:  This month is for AIMS testing, but at the end, we will get to go to Chauncey Ranch!

May:  We will be busy writing, revising, and editing our classroom anthology for the year!  See me for samples, if you have any questions.  Also, we will have Mercado!
