Everyone is working so hard on their biography research projects and we have enjoyed reading everyone's information. Most have finished writing their notecards and are working on rough drafts. We are pleased with the progress of those who are new to using cards to record the important facts being researched. Everyone has also grown so much in their writing abilities since the year began. Our focus this week has been on organizing main ideas and details as well as writing introductory and concluding paragraphs. After the rough drafts are completed, students will focus on polishing and presenting their work next week. We know everyone is looking forward to creating their presentation boards next week and presenting their research on Halloween morning to parents and classmates as they visit our "wax museum".
We appreciate your continued conversations with your child about the work they are doing in class and their chosen topics. We encourage you to look at what your child has done each day and have an open dialogue about deadlines and time management. Every child should be writing in their planner what they must do for homework. Please do not sign their planners unless this work is completed. Also feel free to leave any messages for me as well.
We are also starting to form groups for Mercado booths next week. Only students who are caught up on work will be allowed to participate in Mercado. We invite all parents, friends, and family members to join us in celebrating Mercado on Friday, October 28, from 9-11 am. The students will be planning and operating booths offering games, food, drink, and other goods and services that may be purchased with Mercado bucks.
We also have two field trips coming up: Phoenix Symphony Orchestra at Symphony Hall on November 2, and Rock the Presidents, presented by Childsplay on November 10. Please stay tuned for more information and look for a field trip slip for both of those events. We have a limited number of extra tickets for chaperones. If interested in attending, please let us know.
Also, attached is the latest class job employment opportunities and application. Everyone has had a chance to look at the job board and pick up an application, but a couple of students wanted to have a copy sent via email. Applications are due tomorrow for those who would like to apply to a specific job.
We thank you for all your past support and thank you in advance for all your future support of room 102. Feel free to contact us if you have any questions.
Ms. Liza, Cassie, and Kathy
