Author Presentation, Arizona Statehood, and Chinese New Year activities this week


We just wanted to remind you of the many activities coming right up to celebrate Love of Reading Week, Arizona Statehood day, and Chinese New Year.  Please read below for more details:

Tomorrow, Tuesday, February 13,
Our class will meet with a rising Arizona author after recess. If your child forgot to preorder a signed book, they may be able to purchase a copy that morning for just $6. 

Wednesday, February 14,
We will have a small Valentine's celebration at the end of the day for those who would like to participate. Students may give valentines and/or treats to all class members and they make a bag in class for their valentines. 

Thursday, February 15,
We will be celebrating Arizona Statehood with a trip to the superstition springs museum. Please make sure your child brings a water bottle and packs a disposable lunch. We will leave at 9am and return to school before 2:30. 

Friday, February 16,
We will have our Panda Express Fundraiser on Chinese New Year.  Please show a paper MEC flyer or attachment on your smart phone between 11 am and 7pm and our Upper Elementary will receive 25 percent of proceeds for our big trip. We will also order Panda for lunch as well for students who bring $6 by Friday morning. 

Tutoring
Tutoring for this week will be ending at 4pm, unlike previous weeks, where we have been able to stay later. We also encourage students to bring an extra snack that they can enjoy before they begin their work.

Moving into September

It's hard to believe that September has arrived.  We have been busy in multiple creative endeavors in the classroom.  Last week, our students filled their portfolios with poetry and this week they have been collaborating with a partner on creating a script for a short play, skit, or commercial.  The partnerships were carefully chosen to expand every child's circle of friends and build a more cohesive classroom community.  Our students will be performing their plays next week in class.  We are able to record the performances and place them on the homeroom app for those whose parents have a photo release on file.  We also began more formalized Spanish and art lessons this week, which have been received with enthusiasm.  We have talked about how learning a second language is able to change the structure of the brain to make greater connections in language, math, and even music.  Everyone was introduced to our new artist brushes and their purposes for creating various types of line

Memorial Service for Audrey

Sadly, the beloved mother of two of our school's students passed away last week.  Children and parents are welcome to attend the memorial service, tomorrow afternoon.  Please click here for more information.  Donations made on the family's gofundme page will go toward the emotional and physical well-being of the children.

Wax Museum and Upcoming Events

We are so excited to see the wonderful efforts every child has put forth during these short weeks of research.  Our wax museum is this Friday, from 10-11:15am.  You are welcome to stop by any time to see every child put out their research for all the classrooms and parents to view.  Please make sure your child is not late to school that day so they will have plenty of time to set up their displays. Pictures for Presentation Boards Due  Tomorrow Students are welcome to choose their photos online and print them at home or email them to me in a google doc or word document, where they can printed at school.  All photos should be accompanied by captions that may be typed or handwritten.  Students are welcome to come in as early as 8am to use the computer before school.
