Important Dates for the Second Half of our School Year


We have enjoyed getting back to work with your children after the holidays. We are so excited about the activities we have planned for Upper Elementary during school hours and also a few excursions outside the classroom. We are approaching the busy part of the school year, where testing, fundraising, and field trips converge and we want to make sure you are aware of all the approaching dates and activities. We hope to see everyone at our parent night, where we will talk about all the details of our upcoming trip to Camp Surf.

Please keep checking your email for further details about each carefully planned activity. We are thrilled to take part in so many unique learning opportunities!


Important Dates
January 17: Field trip to symphony hall
January 30: upper Elementary meeting, tutoring canceled
February 13: In-class Author presentation at MEC
February 1: Big trip parent meeting 5:30 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. childcare provided
February 15: Arizona Statehood activities/field trip, drivers and/or chaperones needed
February 28th: Big trip meeting for chaperones and luau meeting for volunteers
March 2: Upper Elementary Author presentation
March 8: Renaissance Festival trip for 6th grade
March 9: In-class Pi Day Activities and Celebration
March 12: Spring Break
March 21: Upper El Science Fair Presentations, 9-11am (please note the change)
April 2-6:  AzMERIT testing
April 9-13: AIMS science test, fourth grade
April 15: Tax credit donations to cover the cost for Camp Surf ($300) are due by 5:30pm.
April 23-27: Trip to Camp Surf

May 4: No school, Parent Conferences
May 11: Spring Mercado
May 12: Saturday. Luau Fundraiser, 6-7pm, students will stay longer for setup or cleanup
May 14-16: 6th grade grade class trip
May 17: Water Day
May 17: Transition to Upper Elementary Meeting, PM.
May 18:   Graduation Ceremony 1:30 pm
May 25: Last Day of School, end-of-year class activity

Moving into September

It's hard to believe that September has arrived.  We have been busy in multiple creative endeavors in the classroom.  Last week, our students filled their portfolios with poetry and this week they have been collaborating with a partner on creating a script for a short play, skit, or commercial.  The partnerships were carefully chosen to expand every child's circle of friends and build a more cohesive classroom community.  Our students will be performing their plays next week in class.  We are able to record the performances and place them on the homeroom app for those whose parents have a photo release on file.  We also began more formalized Spanish and art lessons this week, which have been received with enthusiasm.  We have talked about how learning a second language is able to change the structure of the brain to make greater connections in language, math, and even music.  Everyone was introduced to our new artist brushes and their purposes for creating various types of line

March and April Announcements

We hope everyone has had an enjoyable spring break. We are so excited for our upcoming activities, but also sad to report that one of our families is facing an unimaginable loss.  Please read below for more details. Sad News It is with a heavy heart that I must report that one of our parents, Audrey Baggs, is losing her battle against cancer.  We are explaining this loss to the children and are sharing with you the family's gofundme page to cover final expenses and transitions for the two children that attend our school.  The school cookbook, planned and soon-to-be published by Audrey's oldest daughter, will also be used as a fundraiser to support the children during this time of heartbreaking changes.  We are grateful for the kind words of support during this time and have asked our classroom community to come together in love and unity.  You can find the family gofundme page right  here . Memorial Service for Audrey

Sadly, the beloved mother of two of our school's students passed away last week.  Children and parents are welcome to attend the memorial service, tomorrow afternoon.  Please click here for more information.  Donations made on the family's gofundme page will go toward the emotional and physical well-being of the children.
