Activities for the rest of the year

Here are the remaining dates for the activities remaining in the rest of the year.  There are no changes from the original dates in the welcome letter, unless we get a last minute memo from the state, changing our testing window.  We hope everyone has had a restful break and we look forward to beginning our year with a focus on science, starting with a visit from a field biologist on Monday and finishing with our science camp.
January 18                 Moving up/Big trip parent meeting 5:00 p.m. – 6:30 p.m.
January 25-27 ​Science Camp (cost $86, Tax credit donation money can be used)
February 9 ​Science Fair 5:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.
March 10 ​Pi Day Activities and Celebration
March 27 ​AzMERIT for the next 2 weeks (tentative date)
April 10-12 ​Trip to Camp Sky Y (date subject to change if test dates change)
April 28 or May 4 ​Spring Mercado (exact date to be determined)
May 5 ​No school, Parent Conferences
May 15-17 ​6th and 7th grade class trip
May 19 ​Graduation Ceremony
May 26 ​Last Day of School, end-of-year Class Field Trip

Moving into September

It's hard to believe that September has arrived.  We have been busy in multiple creative endeavors in the classroom.  Last week, our students filled their portfolios with poetry and this week they have been collaborating with a partner on creating a script for a short play, skit, or commercial.  The partnerships were carefully chosen to expand every child's circle of friends and build a more cohesive classroom community.  Our students will be performing their plays next week in class.  We are able to record the performances and place them on the homeroom app for those whose parents have a photo release on file.  We also began more formalized Spanish and art lessons this week, which have been received with enthusiasm.  We have talked about how learning a second language is able to change the structure of the brain to make greater connections in language, math, and even music.  Everyone was introduced to our new artist brushes and their purposes for creating various types of line

Memorial Service for Audrey

Sadly, the beloved mother of two of our school's students passed away last week.  Children and parents are welcome to attend the memorial service, tomorrow afternoon.  Please click here for more information.  Donations made on the family's gofundme page will go toward the emotional and physical well-being of the children.

Wax Museum and Upcoming Events

We are so excited to see the wonderful efforts every child has put forth during these short weeks of research.  Our wax museum is this Friday, from 10-11:15am.  You are welcome to stop by any time to see every child put out their research for all the classrooms and parents to view.  Please make sure your child is not late to school that day so they will have plenty of time to set up their displays. Pictures for Presentation Boards Due  Tomorrow Students are welcome to choose their photos online and print them at home or email them to me in a google doc or word document, where they can printed at school.  All photos should be accompanied by captions that may be typed or handwritten.  Students are welcome to come in as early as 8am to use the computer before school.
